Carl Freidrich Schinkel’s first main project, the dairy of Bärwinkel, could be restored to its original shape of 1803 within the next few years. The HERMANN REEMTSMA FOUNDATION Hamburg has confirmed its support for the essential reconstruction of probably the first Romanesque building on the European Continent. Thereafter the ensemble of the ornamented farm and surrounding landscape garden can be restored and experienced once more. However, it is first necessary to eradicate the property-line that runs through the building and continues to obstruct veritable progress. To that end, alternative property must be found for the building’s northern half’s current owners. The Commune of Neuhardenberg and the many Friends and Supporters of the Project are now bound to carry the creation of a unique destination for European and international cultural tourism, considerably increasing the attractiveness of the Region roughly a quarter of a century after the initiation of the project.
